List of my all times favourites games
( in no special order )
Games listed here are games that I played more than once and that I really loved or still love.
In parenthesis : the developement studio ( not the publisher (I hate when someone says that a game is from a publisher ) ! ).
I'm mainly interested in FPS/RPG games, because I.M.O., they bring the best immersion, the best freedom, and often the best stories... all together. ( yes I'd love to see direct-to-brain virtual reality game ! how geeky. )
But I also love games which have excellent controls / are based on the control of the main ship/car/character.
- System Shock (Looking Glass )
1994. An achievement in the field of RPG/FPS hybrids.
A good athmosphere despite the lack of ambient sounds.
Amazing complexity.
I began a project which aimed to export the maximum of assets to the Doom3 engine : The Citadel project
- System Shock 2 ( Irrational games + Looking Glass )
Same engine as Thief ( the Dark Engine ).
Excellent FPS/RPG hybrid with an amazing anbience.
- Carmageddon 2 ( Stainless software )
Incredible physics system.
It's immensely fun to collide people with a car ( in a game, that is ! )
Excellent replay system.
- Lander ( Psygnosis UK )
The fun of the game comes from the control of the ship. ( which implies a steep learning curve )
A very impressive graphic engine for the time it was made ( 1999 ).
- Thief ( Looking Glass )
The father of all first person stealth games.
Looking glass invented the gameplay elements for this kind of game.
Incredible ambience.
- Thief 2 ( Looking Glass )
The brother of the father of all first-person stealth games.
- Gothic ( Pyrahna Bytes )
Very pleasant engine, great palette, excellent storyline.
- Gothic 2 ( Pyrahna Bytes )
Same as above.
- Arx Fatalis ( Arkane studios )
Another excellent FPS/RPG hybrid.
Good first-person melee combat.
- Dark Messiah ( Arkane studios )
I dreamed of a good first-person melee combat system. This game brings that.
Now someone has to do a FPS/RPG hybrid with this kind of combat system.... Raf' : what about ARX2 ?
This list is probably incomplete...
